Checks a company, person or product name against three official sources, and keeps the results apart by why something is listed: sanctions (a government restricting dealings with a person or company, usually for foreign-policy or security reasons), and recalls for products that harmed or could harm the public. It does not cover every kind of restriction (for example the FCC Covered List or Commerce Department rulings have no searchable feed); see Banned and Restricted Products for those.
Credit: sanctions data from the U.S. Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (SDN and consolidated lists); recalls from the Consumer Product Safety Commission and openFDA. Official sources are the final word, and a listing can change at any time.
